Mendones

The initial intention for this exhibition was to explore themes of diaspora, belonging and home. The majority of the paintings in the exhibition were produced during 2023. As the year progressed, it became clear that what I was really exploring, was those aspects of living in diaspora that are holding me back. Experiences and feelings, about which I am stuck. The theme includes experiences of abuse, domestic violence, mental health difficulties, otherness and liminality. And so the work became an exploration of how to live with and embrace complexities, whilst moving beyond emotional survival, and thriving.
